The next couple of months are set to be exciting times over at the Playaz camp with an impressive line up of stellar releases set to take the Drum and Bass world by storm.
First up, we want to show the fans that we do take their input on board and due to popular demand have decided to release a selection of well loved tracks that have been given the VIP treatment. The Very Important Playaz EP, as named by our fans on Facebook, will consist of the following tracklisting:

Expect nothing but dark and delicious bass in the forthcoming Smuggler/After Midnight where Gridlok takes his production to the next level and Playaz offer something different for 2012.

In the first time in Real Playaz history we are proud to announce the start of our global tour by taking our award winning Playaz Night across the pond to Canada.
One thing we pride ourselves on is delivering high quality Drum and Bass and we aim to do just that when Original Sin headlines the very first Playaz Canada on April 5th 2012 at the Bank, in Calgery, AB.
The two room spectacular is certainly not one to be missed and marks the beginning of Playaz world domination. Supporting the man himself will be DJ Celcius, Obscene, DJ Fever and Big Worm to name but a few and with MC K Nyne on mic duties.

For the first time in Real Playaz Recordings history, we are proud to introduce a video exclusive to accompany Sub Zero’s Bi Polar EP released on February 27th 2012. Why Can’t You See, a collaboration between Sub Zero and rising producer Supreme Being featuring Canadian vocalist Grimm, is already receiving continuous airplay from radio stations and the finest DJs in the Drum and Bass industry.

Directed by Jungle legend DJ Ron, the video for Why Can’t You See touches upon a broken relationship and the consequent night of binge drinking debauchery that inevitably happens. The protagonist awakens to find himself bruised and bloodied and sleeping rough under a bridge, the narrative then rewinds to show how he ended up there and details his broken relationship with his girlfriend.

Watch out for cameo appearances by DJ Hype and Supreme Being too!

Crystal Clear caught up with Kmag to talk about his latest collaboration with Zen, Heavy VIP/ Bullet. You can read the full interview here.

Crystal Clear and Zen are back with the VIP re-rub to dancefloor smasher Heavy. Backed with the warm, vocal-rich Bullet, the release is sure to cause waves across the drum & bass spectrum. We caught up with Crystal Clear to talk releases and labels.

So you’ve just released Heavy VIP/Bullet – tell us a bit about the release and how the tunes came about.

Bullet started with the vocal really – I came up with the vocal hook and put a basic version of the tune down and then we got our mate Everton (who also voiced Heavy) to revocal it. From there we built the rest of the tune around it. We wanted it to be a rugged dancefloor thing but with a thick, warm, resonating bassline. We tested it out a few times and instantly had people like Marky on our case for it, so with that and the crowd reaction we knew the tune worked. We let the original Heavy run its course for a good six months before we decided to go back for a cheeky little revamp. We were really happy with the reception the original got so we thought it was right to give it a go. We didn’t want the VIP to be exactly like the original but I think any VIP/Remix should at least have an essence of the original sound/feel.

Hit The Floor magazine caught up with Hype in an exclusive interview just after Christmas. Below is a section but you can read it in full here.

Hit The Floor are proud to be in the presence of greatness. DJ Hype has, for the past twenty years, been at the vanguard of drum & bass, and, by extension, underground dance music as a whole. Leading the way with classics such as‘Closer To God’ and ‘Supa Sharp Shooter’, his various labels, including the iconic Playaz, have consistently delivered the goods. His tireless live efforts have seen him play all over the world. He returns to Innovation at the Fire Complex in London this New Year’s Eve. We chatted to Hype about his career, highlights of this year, and what to expect at Inno NYE…

HTF: Hi Hype, how are you? Where in the world are you right now?
H: I’m writing this in London just before flying out to the USA for a mini tour.

HTF: How has the last year been for you?
H: It’s been another great year spreading drum and bass around the globe!

HTF: You are, for many many people, a legend in the music business. What do you put your success down to, and why do you think you, as a DJ and the labels you run, mean so much for so many people?
H: I work hard and have a big passion for what I do and I aint a bad DJ either! Hahaha! I’m flattered that people love what I do but you need to ask them why they like me and my music. I’m just happy they like me as I love them too!

HTF: We’re talking Innovation New Year’s Eve. Innovation has been massive in the party scene for a long time. Tell us about your Innovation experiences. Any particular dates stand out?
H: My fav has to be Innovation In The Sun over in Spain. It gets bigger every year and the ‘Playaz’ night there is always a great night.
